Position Summary:  

The Manager, Tax Planning, is a newly created role that will collaborate with Teva’s Director, Tax Planning and various other tax functions to assist with all aspects of Teva’s U.S. federal and state/local tax planning, including but not limited to entity integration/rationalization, repatriation strategies, loss planning, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, deductibility of expenses, and planning with respect to new legislation.  The position will assist in developing, communicating and implementing tax planning into the tax compliance and tax reporting process.


This position will report directly to the Director, Tax Planning and will develop collaborative working relationships across the Company and function as a liaison with key business groups.  


Travel Requirements: Less than 10% 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:                                                                                                                


  • Work collaboratively with Teva’s Director, Tax Planning to identify opportunities to optimize the Company’s tax position while effectively managing risk.
  • Be a central part of the cross-border M&A tax team focused on acquisitions, joint ventures, divestitures and restructurings including due diligence, design and implementation of structuring, financing and post-merger integration/rationalization.
  • Provide technical support for Federal, state and local and international research and planning activities. Assess the impact of business restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, accounting methods or pronouncements. Monitor legislative and statutory tax changes and assess potential impact to the Company.  Assist in devising corporate operational changes to effectively and efficiently respond to evolving tax rules.
  • Perform technical tax research on various Federal, state and local and international topics.  Draft technical memoranda on complex areas of corporate, partnership, and consolidated group tax issues.   
  • Actively participate in special projects such as section 382 studies, analyses of earnings and profits, and stock basis.
  • Assist in preparing and conducting internal tax trainings and developing training agenda.
  • Build and maintain close working relationships across various corporate and business functions throughout the organization to help facilitate timely and accurate tax reporting and execution of tax strategy.
  • Identify tax risk areas and work with other functional areas to ensure appropriate steps are taken to minimize tax risk.
  • Identify and share ideas for continually improving operating processes for the tax planning function. 
  • Provide ongoing support to global and local tax groups related to tax planning.
  • Follows Teva Safety, Health and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Other projects and duties as required/assigned.


Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field, or JD


Education Preferred:

CPA with Masters of Science of Taxation, or JD with LLM in Taxation a plus


Experience Required:

7+ years multi-national corporate strategic U.S. federal income tax planning or 5+ years similar experience within a public accounting firm or law firm required


Experience Preferred:

  • Experience in an M&A Tax practice preferred.
  • Prior tax compliance experience a plus.

Specialized or Technial Knowledge, Licenses, Certifiations Needed:


  • Experience in domestic and cross-border tax planning, including federal and state income tax implications.
  • Understanding of concepts relevant to the tax planning function including reorganization fundamentals, loss planning, debt/equity considerations, limitations on interest deductibility, disposition planning, basic transfer pricing, and state/local considerations.  
  • Strong research, writing, communication, and analytical skills. Familiarity with tax research tools including Westlaw, RIA Checkpoint, and Bloomberg BNA.
  • Occasional experience in leading technical training sessions with a desire to continue to develop presentation skills.
  • Candidate must demonstrate intellectual curiosity and flexibility to adapt proactively to an evolving tax regime.
  • Proven leadership skills and abilities as demonstrated by progressively increasing responsibilities.
  • Strong, demonstrated technical competency to achieve business objectives.
  • Demonstrated understanding of business implications of key actions and decisions as they relate to tax strategy.
  • Strong team player who generates enthusiasm, collaboration, credibility and commitment.
  • Financial and business acumen.
  • Keen analytical skills.
  • Must be proficient in the MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook).

Company/Industry Related Knowledge:

Pharmaceutical industry experience a plus.
